I’m an atheist from a Muslim family, but I think that a lot of atheists are exactly like the religious people that they claim to hate. A lot of atheists make the intelligent atheists look AWFUL by generalizing every single religious person to be ignorant, homophobic, and creationist. I know so many Catholics that I respect very much that believe in the big bang, evolution, and support gay marriage completely. It’s anyone’s right to believe what they want. I just think that it’s important for some people to know that there are and there have been many educated, enlightened, and intelligent religious people as well (such as: Bernard Lonergan, John Donne, Kahlil Gibran, Rumi, and Fyodor Dostoevsky), and shouldn’t keep saying things like how religious people don’t read or aren’t educated, cause it sounds just as ignorant as the religious people who generalize. There’s some of everything in every group of people. I’m tired of meeting all these atheists who think of themselves so highly just because they are atheists. Newsflash: Just because you claim to be so, doesn’t mean that you’re on the same level as people like Lawrence Krauss or Richard Dawkins. Do your research, and stop promoting and spreading hate to belong to some sort of rebellious counter-culture. Look at both sides of each argument fairly, and think for yourself. Most of all, let people be. If they aren’t harming you, I don’t find the need to slam them. Don’t misuse atheism the same way people misuse religion. It doesn’t make us look like good people, or right for that matter. I don’t see atheism as another religious organization, and it doesn’t need to be, but that’s what a lot of people are doing. Anon please, I know where I stand and don’t find the need to argue any further.
